Last.FM Stats and a PHP Lib

December 25th, 2007 Karl Vollmer Comments off

I’ve just added data from the Ampache Last.FM Group to the rightbar. The data is only updated once a week but it gives you some idea of what Ampache users are scrobbling. The data is parsed by a quick little PHP class I wrote, LastFmXml.class.phps, it requires PHP5 and is far from perfect but it will take a LastFM group XML document and parse it into a nice PHP Named Array. Now back to Ampache!

Numerous Changes to supporting applications

December 16th, 2007 Karl Vollmer Comments off

As many of you may have noticed there have been a large number of changes to the applications I’m using to support Ampache development. After a long a good history with Bountysource I’ve decided to move off of their service. I’ve since replaced The Wiki and Bug Reports with a Trac Instance. The News is now pulled from an Ampache Blog. All in all I’ve gotten a lot of positive feedback from these changes, however if you see something weird/missing/broken let me know.

With the new Wiki I went through almost all of the documents and cleaned them up. I also restricted Wiki Editing to approved users in an attempt to get a little more reliable data in it (as I found some semi-marketing slogan stuff in the old one). In attempt to get these new Wiki Articles a little more exposure I’m going to try to post a few I’ve recently updated with every news item.

Speaking of Marking stuff, I’ve created a Ampache Facebook page as well as a Ampache Last.FM Group. Once the Last.FM group has it’s own Chart I will be adding it to the Ampache main page so people can see what Ampache users are scrobbling!

Brief SVN Downtime 06/13 – 06/14

June 14th, 2007 Karl Vollmer Comments off

Sorry about the SVN downtime. A hailstorm knocked out the network at the data center where Ampache.org is located on Wednesday afternoon. This caused a dead lock on the svn repo making it impossible for anyone to check it out, or view it. I fixed it early Thursday. Sorry for the inconvenience…. stupid hail…

Vacation Time!

February 26th, 2007 Karl Vollmer Comments off

Many of you may have noticed the slowed development. I’m currently working more at my real job to get ahead enough to take some time off. After I get back from vacation I hope to get back into Ampache full steam. In my absence the other devs have been doing a great job! Next on the list of things to do are Table Prefixes, XML-RPC rewrite and Downsampling/Transcoding Merge and Rewrite. These will be the last “major” changes for the 3.4 branch after that I’ll go back to making the more minor interface tweaks and improvements.

Speaking of vacation, I am going to be Flying back to the Eastern side of the United States and touring Civil War Battlegrounds, starting from NC up into PA. After that I’m going to fly up to Halifax NS and spend a few days there visiting some friends. If anyone lives around Halifax NS and wants to meet for a pint throw me an e-mail vollmer AT ampache DOT org. I’ll be there from March 9th through the 12th.

New Look for Ampache.org

January 4th, 2007 Karl Vollmer Comments off

New Look
Ros has been kind enough to create a new look for Ampache.org. The old look was rather dull. There are still some missing components. I will be continuing to tweak it and add back the missing parts over the next few days. I am also very close to a Beta3 Release. At this point there is a feature freeze on the 3.3.3 Branch. Only the features already entered in BountySource will be included in the 3.3.3 Branch. I hope to have a stable within a two weeks at the most.

Plans for the 3.4 Branch
I’ve started planning the 3.4 Branch of Ampache. I would like, if possible, to require PHP5 starting at 3.4, however, I don’t want to push out users who are unable to upgrade for one reason or another. Please let me know if you would be unable to upgrade to PHP5 within the next few months. The reason for the switch to PHP5 is to take advantage of the new Object code as well as potentially PHP::PDO and MySQLi.

Vollmer en France

August 4th, 2006 Karl Vollmer Comments off

Sorry for the lack of updates in the last month and a half now. I’ve just finished the first month of my studies here in Angers France. If any of you are living in France send me an e-mail vollmer at ampache dot org. Thanks to Charles from Nantes who gave me a tour of Nantes last weekend!

I have an alternative motive for posting this news item. I’m in France for another 3 weeks and I’m looking for a job in computers. I would love to be able to find a job in France, England, Ireland or another European country. But I’ll take a job in Canada or the United States. If you know of an opening in System Administration or Web Development please let me know ( vollmer at ampache dot org ) Thanks!

When I get back from France tons and tons of work on Ampache I swear!

Help Vollmer continue work on Ampache from France!!

May 12th, 2006 Karl Vollmer Comments off

Our lead developer, Karl Vollmer, has never asked for money for Ampache or for his time supporting #ampache or the forums. But we now have the opportunity to give something back to the man who has given so much of his time to creating, improving and maintaining the best music server available!!!

Karl is going to France for his final semester as an undergraduate. These trips cost a lot and we’re asking for a little extra help making it affordable for vollmer to continue his efforts on Ampache while abroad. For the first time, Karl is willing to receive donations for Ampache.

As an extra incentive, Ros and I have agreed to match, dollar-for-dollar, donations made to vollmer to support his upcoming trip to France. So whether its because vollmer has helped you get Ampache running on your system, or because you appreciate the existence of Ampache – maybe its because you want to force Ros and I to have to kick in more money (subject to a limit, of course) – please help vollmer afford the completion of his degree without totally having to scrape or pass up Ampache development time.

The money donated will pay for stuff necessary for vollmer to continue Ampache development and support while in France.

To make a donation click the PayPal button at www.ampache.org. If you have questions, contact me at sigger@ampache.org.
