Certificate for svn.ampache.org updated

August 17th, 2009 Karl Vollmer Comments off

Better late then never, but I’ve finally gotten around to updating the certificate for svn.ampache.org. I’m still using cacert.org So if you get a warning, it’s to be expected. As for progress on ampache, I must appologize profusly for not really getting anything done, the weather has been so nice that I’ve spending all of my spare time outside. As the weather gets colder I’ll have more indoor time to work on ampache I promise!

SVN SSL Certificate

July 2nd, 2009 Karl Vollmer 2 comments

I’ve accidentally let the SSL Certificate lapse on https://svn.ampache.org. So you may get an additional security warning when accessing it. Unfortunately I’ve realized just as I’m about to leave for 10 days. As such I will most likely not be able to fix this until after July 13th. Hopefully in the next two weeks development on 3.6 will pick back up as I’m finally catching back up on some things at work.

Sidenote – I will have about 12 hours to kill in Madrid Spain on July 11th (from ~18h00 – July 12th ~06h00). If there are any locales or otherwise Madrid aware people that can recommend something easy to get to from the airport I would like to do something besides sit for 12 hours in an airport. If you do know of something please e-mail me at vollmer@ampache.org Thanks!

Also in recent Ampache news was the addition of Ampache to Amahi as a “Turn Key” installation solution.

There have also been some exciting conversations about some changes for 3.6 on the Forums check them out.

Development Status Update

September 23rd, 2008 Karl Vollmer Comments off

It’s been a while since I’ve updated the news, so I felt that I should at least post something. I am in France and have an apartment now, however I still don’t have Internet at said apartment, and it may be a while still before I do. Rest assured that I will pick up development once I actually have internet. Currently trying to figure out the land line # for my apartment so I can get DSL :) . Sorry for the delays.

Server Migration Completed

September 10th, 2008 Karl Vollmer Comments off

I’ve just completed the server migration. We upgraded from an AMD XP 2100+ (very old) to a newish AMD X2 5000+. I have moved almost everything over, however I’m taking this opportunity to do some housecleaning so the nightly builds and the themes will be off-line a while longer while I rewrite some of the scripts that generated them. You will notice that amapche.org and svn.ampache.org both have new IP addresses. If you notice anything still not working please let me know and I will try to fix it as quickly as possible.

I am not going to be able to pull off an alpha release of 3.5.x before I leave for France (17th of September). Please be assured that once I’ve secured reliable internet in France I will be back in action and responding to bug reports and forums posts etc. A bientôt.

Ampache.org Outage 25/08/2008

August 26th, 2008 Karl Vollmer Comments off

As some have you may have noticed Ampache.org was down for a few hours last night. We had a still unexplained hardware issue on the colo. We’ve been putting off moving to new hardware for almost two years now. This, however, was the straw that broke the camels back. Sometime in the next week we are moving it over to a new and faster server. I will send another announcement once the migration is complete. There should hopefully be little to no service interruption. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Development Delays – Moving to France

August 18th, 2008 Karl Vollmer Comments off

I’ve decided to move to Angers France. I will be leaving the United States September 17th. Although I hope to have a point release of 3.5.x out before I leave it will all depend on how much paperwork/packing I have to do before I leave. Once I arrive in France it may be up to a month before I have a steady internet connection so development and communication will be spotty. Rest assured that I will resume work on Ampache as soon as I’m settled in France. If anyone happens to know of open jobs system administration in France please send me an e-mail vollmer AT ampache.org.

The checklist for the first point release of 3.5.x is as follows:

  • Fix remaining Browse issues after code re-organization
  • Complete Tag support
  • Add Catalog Filters
  • Transition to new API
  • Simplified ACL

This is by no means a complete feature list of 3.5.x, simply what I think I might be able to get done before I leave for France.

In other news Kevin Purdy has been hard at work figuring out the iPhone API and has a working concept of Quickplay implemented on the iPhone. Once he manages to wade through the bureaucracy that is Apple it should be available for download. What does this mean? It would give you a native interface for your Ampache collection strait on your iPhone. Once it’s been completed I will post an update, with pictures!

Quickplay Updates

August 4th, 2008 Karl Vollmer Comments off

Quickplay ScreenshotCheck out the Python based GTK client for Ampache, Git Repoistory – Quickplay. The author, Kevin Purdy just did a whole bunch of updates, including some pretty sweet caching. So if you want a very simple interface to your ampache server with a fully functional GTK based front end check out it out. See a screen shot of it in action below.

In Ampache news, development continues, albeit a little slowly on 3.5.x. I’ve got a ton of ideas and simply not enough time to implement them all. However already there have been some major performance improvements in 3.5.x along with some menu changes that make things a lot easier to find. I should have some interesting news next Wednesday so Stay tuned.

Brief SVN Downtime

May 15th, 2008 Karl Vollmer Comments off

As some of you may have noticed the SVN Repository was down from 12h00 GMT -7 till around 15h00 GMT -7. This was due to a routing issue with my hosting companies ISP. I apologize for any inconvenience. Just as a sidenote, development has already started on 3.5 and there have been a few minor bugs found in the 3.4 stable release, as such I expect to release 3.4.1 sometime in the next month to fix the few cosmetic issues.
