All Good things come to those to wait. iAmpache a native Ampache client for the iPhone has just been released to the Appstore through the blood, sweat and tears of “Uber” Brady Wetherington and Christopher Vallozzi, of Bespin Corp. For those of you with iPhones check this new app out. If you haven’t setup your copy of Ampache to use the API yet you can find instructions on the Ampache wiki. This application completes the triad of mobile platforms. There are now ampache mobile applications for the iPhone, Android and Palm all for the love of music. Enought chatter, on to the pictures.

This release fixes some bugs introduced in the last release as well as some significant improvements / fixes for the localplay methods. Catalog size calculation was also corrected for larger catalogs. It should now work for up to 4TB catalogs. New installations of 3.5.4 will include an additional two default ACLs for API use.

All good things come to those who wait, and this is definitely one of those good things. Ampache 3.5.2 has finally been released. This version fixes a large number of bugs found in the API by various other developers. A big thanks to all of you who submitted bug reports. There are also some improvements to the handling of damaged audio files. They will now be put under their own album “Unknown (Broken)” rather then being lumped with the “Unknown (Orphaned)” files. This version also includes an amazing new theme called Penguin.
You’ll notice that a lot of the elements have been moved around, behold the power of CSS! Hopefully this theme is an inspiration to others of just how much you can change. Enjoy!

Better late then never I guess. I’ve finally taken the time to finish up the 3.5.1 release. This version includes a lot of little nagging bugs that existed in the stable 3.5 release. Most importantly it corrects the issues with the API and ‘tags’ as well as some endless loops in the audio tag reading code. I would recommend that all users of 3.5 upgrade to this as soon as possible.
As for 3.6 development, hopefully I’ll get a little more done over the next week or so. However, next thursday I am heading off to GUADEC + Akademy 2009 where I’ll finally get to meet a bunch of the Amarok guys and hopefully they won’t beat me up too much. At the very least I hope to come away from Akademy with some better ideas on how to implement the API as well as maybe even some draft standardized definitions of audio/media file XML documents.

The stable release of 3.5 includes a number of bug fixes and tweaks that were not present in 3.5-Beta2. Including the addition of the Czech translation. For those of you who haven’t been keeping up with Ampache’s 3.5 development the list of major new features since 3.4 is as follows

Over the next few days I will be updating the wiki documentation to reflect changes with 3.5. 3.4.4 is now officially end of life and will not be supported. As such development will being shortly on 3.6. This next version will focus on flushing out the new Tag support as well as replacing the old Random Play method with a Dynamic Playlist Builder. Enjoy!

As we are ever approaching a stable release of 3.5, here is yet another and hopefully the last, beta of the 3.5 branch. There are a few minor bug fixes in this release as well as updates to a majority of the languages included with ampache. There are a still a few translations that need to be updated. Please check out this beta and keep on reporting those bugs. If everything goes to plan I hope to release the stable near the end of April.
In the post 3.5 world I plan to do another ‘incremental’ update to the 3.x line of Ampache in the form of 3.6. After that I’m hoping to implement some of my crazier ideas in a 4.x branch. We will see what happens with 3.6 first though. Only time will tell!

In the spirit of my previous post, 3.5-Beta1 has been released. This release initiates a string freeze for the 3.5 branch. It also includes new API functionality for Democratic play and localplay, a Democratic Play configuration wizard, Improved Video browsing, changes to make album art more compatible with DLNA devices. There are also numerous minor little tweaks / fixes.
The goal is to have a Stable version released in 6 weeks, with at least one more beta before then. There will be no changes made to the strings to make it easier for the translators to complete their work. 3.5 Alpha2 has been released. This version includes a large number of major feature additions including: IPv6 ACL entries, Video, Localplay Control via API, Lyrics importing, ACL creation wizards and anonymous user level access with manual admin login. This version also includes a large number of bug fixes and performance tweaks that should make many functions a little snappier especially the verifying of an existing catalog.
There is still a lot of work to be done on 3.5 before we can move to a beta state. We need to finish the new dynamic playlists that are replacing the old advanced random, implemented the new query methodology, finish tagging support, finish video support. Over the last few weeks I’ve had significantly more time to develop so hopefully I’ll be able to keep the pace up and get a stable version of 3.5 out early summer. Thanks to Momo-i who has worked very hard on the translations, lyric support and other fixes for this version.
In other news Amarok 2.1.x will support the new authentication methodology in Ampache 3.5. Also I’ve finally put up some T-shirt designs with the Ampache logo, check them out. All the prices are in Canadian Dollars so take that into account.

Considerably later then I had hoped but here it is. This is an alpha release and should be treated a such. Any bug reports or feature suggestions should be submitted as bug reports. 3.5.x uses a new password scheme and as such all users will be prompted to reset their password as needed. Amarok 2.0 currently does not work with the 3.5.x branch. The latest versions of Quickplay and Coherence do.
In other news Kevin Purdy showed me his implementation of Quickplay on the Android Phone it was nothing short of amazing. It’s still in development but once he’s got a working copy released I will post an update here. Now if only I had a G1 phone so I could use it! Also Momo-i has started translating the wiki into Japanese. If you are interested in translating the wiki into another language post it on the forums and I will give you write access and setup the language if needed.

It’s not 3.5.x but at least it’s something. I’ve released yet another minor version of the current stable branch, 3.4. This version includes some improvements to the error messages seen during the install. It also includes a few minor bug fixes pertaining to the command line scripts, Force HTTP Play with Democratic Play and fread() errors when the client attempts to seek to the very end of the file and read data.
Next on the list, Alpha1 of 3.5. Keep your eyes pealed!
